Early Neurological Stimulation(ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI)
We participate in ENS and ESI with all of our puppies. These are puppy training exercises that can help with a dog's development, resilience, and coping mechanisms.
ENS includes:
- Tactile stimulation: Gently rotate a q-tip between the puppy's toes
- Head held erect: Hold the puppy vertically so its head is above its tail
- Head pointed down: Hold the puppy securely and point its head downward
- Supine position: Hold the puppy on its back with its muzzle facing the ceiling
- Thermal stimulation: Place the puppy on a damp towel that has been cooled in the fridge
ESI includes:
introducing a different strong scent to the puppy each day. The handler holds the puppy close and documents their reaction. Puppies that actively engage with the scent may be good candidates for scent-based service work.
We do this so that our puppies have a higher success rate at being emotional and service animals.
